Welcome to the official website of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) and thank you for your interest!
The NSG is a group of forty-eight nuclear supplier countries that seeks to contribute to the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons through the implementation of two sets of Guidelines for nuclear exports and nuclear-related exports.
Switzerland is honoured to have been entrusted by NSG Participating Governments to chair the NSG between June 2017 and June 2018 for the second time in the history of the Group. It is my personal privilege to carry out this duty and I will do my utmost to build on the excellent work of my predecessors in order to advance the goals of the Group.
I assumed the chairmanship of the NSG at the Bern Plenary which took place on 22 and 23 June 2017. At the Bern Plenary, Participating Governments inter alia reiterated the NSG’s firm support for the full, complete and effective implementation of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) as the cornerstone of the international non-proliferation regime. The Group exchanged information on and expressed concerns regarding continued global proliferation activities and reaffirmed its determination to cooperate closely in order to deter, hinder and prevent the transfer of controlled items and technology that could contribute to nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices.
One of the important tasks of the Chair, together with the other members of the so-called Troika, is outreach to third countries and outside bodies. This is undertaken to promote adherence to the Group’s Guidelines, to share the experience of the Group in the field of nuclear export controls with third parties and, in general, to improve awareness about the work and mission of the Group. At the Bern Plenary, the Group approved revised guidance which will allow a differentiated outreach to respective outreach partners.
Additional information on the NSG and its activities, including the results of all recent Plenary Meetings and an IAEA Information Circular Document entitled The Nuclear Suppliers Group: Its Origin, Role and Activities, can be found in the “Documents” tab of this website.
